DETOX TEAS and other BS! . As a nutrition specialist, with a first class honours BSc and Masters, I cannot tell you how THRILLED I am to hear Instagram’s announcement that tighter restrictions will be imposed on posts that sell ridiculous diet products that include detox teas and other weight loss/fat loss nonsense. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 . Posts relating to these weight loss products will now be BANNED from users who are under the age of 18. If I had it my way, I’d ban it from the ENTIRE population! But hey, one step at a time! 😇 . What I’d now like to see is the banning and restriction of the people who are actually selling and promoting the rubbish. I cannot tell you the number of people that I’ve seen on my feed that are promoting these types of products such as fat loss supplements, detox teas and meal replacement powders - which only Merlin knows what’s in that! They use words such as ‘ALL natural ingredients’, ‘super FILLING’, and the funniest one girl said to me was ‘based on science’ and that I should sell these products to other people myself 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ (funnily enough she had a psychology degree, not nutrition). . Yet, they have NO nutrition education what so ever and no, a level 3 online is not ‘nutrition education’. You’re not a nutritionist, sorry! 🙃 . My advice: if you are ever promoted a product such as the aforementioned, say NO! They’re actually proven to cause health problems, they’re an absolute waste of your money and by the way, the only way you can lose fat and weight is by a calorie deficit. Which means that you either have to expend (exercise/physical activity) more or restrict (eat less calories) more. 1lb of fat is about 3,500 calories. . No qualified nutritionist, dietician or even doctor (who doesn’t have as much nutrition education unless they are a specialist) would ever promote these!
